This series of paintings was a reaction to the comparative chaos of the previous series of gestural paintings. In contrast to the purely spontaneous character of the gestural work, these paintings are meticulously planned and executed.  The use of simple geometric forms puts the emphasis on color and texture, allowing the viewer to experience these elements to the fullest. The use of larger and smaller scale canvases evokes a sense of environment and place for each painting.
