STATEMENT
I fell in love with abstract art while in college. It was moving and mysterious. It was another language. In fact, multiple languages - each one unique to each artist. In viewing art, I look for the kernel of magic that moves me. I hope my viewers experience a similar reaction.

Each series of paintings requires a different concept, a different style, a different technique. My process can be convoluted as I balance past ideas with present imperatives. Seemingly simple paintings may have entailed months of thought and planning. Seemingly complex paintings may have been created as a matter of chance.

At the end of the day, I aspire to make paintings that are imbued with the mystery of life and have a strong presence. I want the viewer to have to deal with a painting as if it were another being, standing in front of them. Viewers have the last say, and I want their experience of my paintings to be profound and lasting.

I received my BA in Studio Art from Bowdoin College, with a focus on abstract painting and conceptual art. After leaving a career in the technology industry, I have returned to painting full time. I live in Newburyport, MA. My studio is in the Cedar Street Studios building in Amesbury, MA.
